Reaching out for support and sharing your story with someone new can make you feel incredibly vulnerable. It’s natural to wonder: Will I be safe here? Will I be understood? Can I truly trust this person with what I’ve been through?
If you’re asking those questions, you’re not alone. I’d like to share a little about myself, so you can begin to sense whether I might be the right person to walk alongside you.
Meet Your Therapist:
Welcome. I’m Joanna, and I’m so glad you’re here.
I believe that healing begins with feeling safe – safe to speak, to feel, to be seen. Shelter Within Therapy is a space where you don’t have to hold everything alone. Whether you’re navigating grief, anxiety, burnout, or simply longing for something more grounded and whole, you are welcome here.
My approach is gentle, collaborative, and rooted in deep listening. In my work, I draw from a range of therapeutic models to meet you where you are. Even more than techniques, I offer presence – a steady light as you explore what’s been hidden, tangled, or hurting.
Clients often tell me they feel a sense of relief in our sessions. Not because everything is fixed, but because they no longer feel alone in it. That’s the heart of this work: creating a space where your truth can unfold, at your pace, with compassion.
Why “Shelter Within”?
Because I believe we all carry an inner refuge – a place of strength, softness, and knowing. Sometimes it’s buried beneath layers of pain or self-protection. Together, we can gently uncover it.
Over the past ten years, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds, each navigating their own unique challenges. These have included anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, addiction, sexual violence, relationship and attachment difficulties, life transitions, grief and bereavement, workplace stress, low self-esteem, and the feeling of being stuck or overwhelmed.
I’m accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council and committed to their high ethical standards, including ongoing professional development. This means I continue to learn, reflect, and grow, so I can offer you the most thoughtful, informed, and attuned support possible.
At the heart of my work is a deep belief in your capacity to heal. With the right environment – one that feels safe, nurturing, and free of judgment – transformation is possible.

Whatever you’ve been through, you don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to support you, at your own pace, in your own way.
